1Password for Agents: personal AI agents sign in without ever seeing the password

1Password launched 1Password for Agents on Oct 22, 2026: when a supported personal agent hits a sign-in page, it identifies itself to 1Password with a digital key, the user approves the login on their own device, and 1Password fills the credentials in directly, so the agent never receives the password or one-time code.

Why it matters

It removes the most common unsafe shortcut in personal agent use — pasting a password into a chat window — while keeping the human in the loop for every single sign-in.

What you could build with it

An indie developer building a personal assistant app could adopt an approve-each-login pattern for delegated tasks, so users can let an assistant book or buy on their behalf while every credential stays inside the vault and each sign-in needs one tap.

Does it hold up?

Usable now through the launch integrations (Muse, Grok Bot rolling out; Claude Duet, ChatGPT Work and Town coming soon), but it only works with supported agents — not every AI tool — so coverage is the open question.
