agentc: a libc-free C23 coding agent under 1 MB
Created Oct 8 (7 stars), abird-ai/agentc is a minimal coding agent written in freestanding C23 — zero libc, static binaries, vendored mbedTLS, MCP-first tools, a versioned C ABI for extensions, and six build targets; the author measured 0.3 ms cold start and 0.7 MB session RSS versus 191 MB for Claude Code.
Why it matters
A real coding agent in a 940 KiB static binary — 300x smaller on disk than Codex — aimed at embedding agentic coding into places Node and Python runtimes cannot go.
What you could build with it
A firmware team could embed agentc on resource-constrained edge devices to give field technicians a sub-megabyte coding agent that patches device scripts locally over SSH, with no cloud round-trip needed.
Does it hold up?
Too early to judge — 7 stars and a day old; the footprint benchmark table is measured rather than estimated, but no one outside the author has reported using it.
