Ajax: PewDiePie's 9B local agent model for the Odysseus workspace
Felix 'PewDiePie' Kjellberg released Ajax, a 9B-parameter fine-tune of Alibaba's Qwen3.5-9B trained on real Odysseus task traces with GRPO reinforcement learning, built to run web search, browsing, email and calendar locally inside his self-hosted Odysseus workspace.
Why it matters
A creator-scale demonstration that a 9B model trained on genuine agent task traces can handle everyday assistant work on home hardware — and a live case study of OpenAI's distillation enforcement, after Kjellberg said his account was banned twice for using model outputs as training data.
What you could build with it
An indie developer could replicate the Ajax recipe for a niche profession: collect real workflow traces from a paralegal or clinic receptionist, fine-tune a small open model with tool-use RL, and ship a fully offline desktop assistant that never sends client data to the cloud.
Does it hold up?
Too early to judge: weights are not public (the download link points to a data-contribution page), there is no model card or independent benchmark, and the only performance evidence is Kjellberg's own claim of roughly nine-in-ten internal task completion.
