Anthropic Scion: source control rebuilt for agent-scale development
Anthropic's Oct 13 engineering post describes Scion, the in-house version control system that replaced Git across its monorepo after agent-driven merges grew from 2,500 to 30,000+ per day.

First public case study of infrastructure redesigned for always-online agents instead of humans: server-side commits and merges, changesets, sparse virtualized checkouts, 200x smaller infra footprint - a preview of the dev-stack rebuild every agent-heavy org will face.
What you could build with it
A platform team at a company whose coding agents now produce most commits could prototype a Scion-style server-side checkout cache for CI, so agent sandboxes fetch only the files they read instead of cloning a multi-gigabyte monorepo every run.
Does it hold up?
Too early to judge: Scion is internal-only with no public release; Anthropic says it suits only enormous monorepos and expects others to hit the same limits within 6-12 months. Evidence so far is Anthropic's own numbers and community analysis, not independent deployments.
