Builder.io Agent-Native — open-source TypeScript framework for agentic apps (beta)
Builder.io launched the public beta of Agent-Native, a free open-source TypeScript framework for building agentic apps where the agent and UI share actions, data, and state; define an action once and it is exposed as an agent tool, React hook, HTTP endpoint, MCP, A2A, and CLI.
Why it matters
Solves the chat-box-isn't-enough problem: agent and UI as equal citizens over SQL-backed state, model-agnostic (Anthropic/OpenAI/Gemini/OpenRouter/Ollama), MIT-licensed, with three open-source example apps (Clips, Slides, Design) in alpha.
What you could build with it
An indie hacker building a client-facing research product could use Agent-Native so the same action definitions power both the autonomous research agent and the customer's dashboard UI, shipping a steerable agent app instead of a black-box chatbot.
Does it hold up?
Usable today in beta: the repo has roughly 5,000 stars and active nightly releases since March 2026, and the npm create flow works; as a fast-moving beta, APIs may still churn between releases.
