At its first Config India event, Figma launched Specs — a Markdown editor turning a team's design language, libraries, and guidelines into a shared rulebook for people and AI agents — alongside Code Layers going public beta, expanded MCP support (20+ tools), and Payload CMS integration into Figma Make.
Why it matters
Design governance moves into the artifact: instead of agents improvising against scattered docs, Figma embeds the constraints (design system, code libraries, guidelines) where the agent works — plus live code inside the canvas via Code Layers.
What you could build with it
A design-systems team at a mid-size product company could encode its component library and brand rules in Figma Specs so any agent generating screens consults the same rulebook, cutting design-review cycles on AI-generated UI.
Does it hold up?
Too early to judge — announced Oct 15 with no hands-on reports yet. The concrete parts (Code Layers public beta after a June private beta, 20+ new MCP tools) are verifiable in-product; the 'Specs as agent rulebook' claim needs real team usage to evaluate.
