Local models + sandboxed tools for GitHub Copilot
GitHub Copilot gains local-model support across CLI, app and VS Code — Auto orchestration routes each task between local and cloud (HydraFusion extended to Windows), or developers pick a local model explicitly; Windows ML adds llama.cpp support.

Does it hold up?
Too early to judge for the local-model part — it rolls out end of October (not yet live), so no real developer usage exists. The adjacent halves are proven: HydraFusion runs as a live CLI research preview with third-party coverage, and sandboxing ships in public preview with detailed practitioner rollout guides (nandann). The Microsoft announcement includes concrete MAI Code 1.1 Flash benchmarks (72.6% SWE-Bench Verified, 70.8% quantized).
