WeftCut: open-source video editor driven by AI agents over MCP
Free MIT-licensed desktop NLE (macOS/Windows/Linux) that exposes its entire timeline — place, trim, split, keyframe, caption, checkpoint — as a localhost MCP server any AI agent can drive while the user watches.
Why it matters
Instead of AI as a button, the editor itself becomes the tool surface: agents restyle lower-thirds and trim B-roll live on the timeline, every action logged, checkpointed, and undoable by hand; agents can even author new overlays as code 'Motifs'.
What you could build with it
A YouTube creator wires their editing agent to WeftCut so overnight renders get captions added, B-roll trimmed, and lower-thirds restyled by the agent, then they scrub the activity log and take over for the final pass.
Does it hold up?
Too early to judge — pre-1.0, macOS installer unverified, small star count; maker demo shows an agent trimming and restyling footage live during playback.
