World ID for banking and finance
Sam Altman's World launched its first industry-specific identity suite for banks and financial firms: an identity-wallet app holding user 'Proofs', World ID for Zoom deepfake checks (now generally available), and World ID for Agents (AgentKit), which lets a person delegate identity proofs to an AI agent.
Why it matters
First trust infrastructure that lets a bank tell a human-backed AI agent apart from anonymous bot traffic — 'proof of human' for the agentic economy, aimed at the AI fraud wave Deloitte pegs at $40B by 2027.
What you could build with it
A fintech startup could build a personal shopping agent that places orders and moves money on a customer's behalf, attaching delegated identity proofs to each transaction so merchants can verify the agent acts for a real, verified person — cutting false fraud declines on agent-initiated purchases.
Does it hold up?
Too early to judge — announced Oct 18 with no named bank customer, no pricing, and no rollout timeline; VanEck only ran the Zoom check as a beta pilot. The credential base is real (18M+ Proof-of-Human holders), but enterprise adoption is unproven.
