A full-screen grayscale TUI (Ink + React) over yt-dlp by Pablo Stanley: paste a link from YouTube, X, Instagram, Threads, TikTok or 1800+ other sites, pick a resolution or audio-only mp3, and it lands in the Downloads folder — no popups, no fake download buttons.
Why it matters
Downloads are commoditized; yoinks wins on craft — a polished mouse-and-keyboard terminal UI, zero-config yt-dlp and ffmpeg provisioning on first run, and npm install -g simplicity. MIT licensed, 5.2K stars with 1.9K added this week.
What you could build with it
A creator-archiving side project could wrap yoinks' TUI in a scheduler that grabs a user's saved videos from subscribed channels weekly, keeping a local searchable archive of reference clips for editing.
Does it hold up?
Works well as an interactive personal-archiving tool — first-run yt-dlp provisioning and the format picker are genuinely polished. Not scriptable yet: batch flags, custom output dirs and playlist support are on the roadmap, so automation use waits. Downloading may violate platform ToS; personal archiving only.
