Howler: burn-after-reading AI questions on macOS, styled as a Harry Potter letter
Open-source macOS app that pops up a parchment letter with Option+H, answers through a chosen model API or a local model, keeps messages in memory only, and burns the exchange when Escape is pressed.
Why it matters
Ephemeral by design: API keys live in the macOS Keychain, requests go straight to the model provider with no relay and no logs, a privacy posture mainstream chat apps do not offer.

A privacy-conscious support team could ship a similar ephemeral query pane inside an internal tool, letting staff ask a model about sensitive tickets without those questions landing in a shared chat history.
Does it hold up?
Too early to judge: the app surfaced days ago with a tiny star count, setup still needs manual configuration or a coding agent, and the no-history promise covers the client only, since the model provider may still retain the exchange.
