Apple Intelligence arrives in China, powered by Alibaba's Qwen
Apple announced on 30 Oct that Apple Intelligence features come to China with iOS 27.3: Writing Tools, Genmoji, Clean Up in Photos, notification summaries, Visual Intelligence and Live Translation, with Alibaba's Qwen handling some requests through Siri, Writing Tools and Visual Intelligence. Testing starts 4 Nov in the developer beta, with a public rollout planned for December; Siri AI and Image Playground are excluded.
Why it matters
The first time Apple's AI stack officially ships in mainland China, routed through a domestic frontier model under regulator clearance — a template for how Western AI products enter regulated markets.
