GitHub Copilot Fusion: multi-model routing and orchestration for coding tasks
GitHub's generally available Copilot mode that picks an effort level instead of a model, then routes each task through single, cascade, or critique execution patterns across OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google models.
Why it matters
Removes the model picker from coding: GitHub claims Fusion Max lands within two points of Claude Code with Opus 5.5 Max at about half the API cost per task.
What you could build with it
A development team could run Fusion Max on its hardest tickets and Fusion Standard on routine ones for a month, comparing completed-task cost and review-pass rates against a single-model baseline.
Does it hold up?
Usable now across all Copilot plans in VS Code, the CLI, the Copilot app and JetBrains IDEs, but the headline benchmark is vendor-reported and not yet independently listed, so cost savings need measuring on a team's own tickets.
